John Careless - Fairley Stud

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the loss of another well-known breeder and long-time member with the passing of John Careless from the world-renowned Fairley Stud of Welsh Part Breds in Staffordshire.

John was married to the most wonderful, caring and devoted wife Edna, He leaves behind a large family with grandchildren and great grandchildren!

John could always make you smile, and loved a joke and any excuse for a party! His love and passion for his ponies knew no bounds and he was a gentleman to all who knew him.

He joined the Society in 1970 and benefited from the bloodlines at Rotherwood making extensive use of the stallions Keston Royal Occasion and Twylands Troubadour. He based his female lines on the mares Downland Glissade and Downland Seasong daughter of the famous Downland Starletta. One of his most treasured ponies Fairley Melissa went on to breed the Stallion Fairley Rembrandt whose stock was very popular in both the UK and Australia. Rembrandt sired many saddle ponies including the world famous multi-HOYS winner Ardenhall Royal Secret, John valued a quality free moving pony that was suitable for a child to ride.

The Society sends its sincere condolences to his family and friends.

His funeral will take place on Monday 15th May in Lichfield. For more details, please contact Danielle Waller of the Delami stud who is collating numbers for attendance.
