The 'Parking Lot'

As part of the database used by the Society, the ‘Parking Lot’ is an inbuilt tool with the intention to refine and speed up database searches for members using the online pedigree site.

Therefore, animals which have been recorded as deceased in the database which have no registered progeny recorded within the database will be in the parking lot and will not appear during searches within the online pedigree site.

There are some 300,000 plus entries of animals within the Society database, and it is not feasible to have all of these visible whilst maintaining a speedy search for members using the online pedigree.

The records of these animals are not lost – they are still searchable within the Society’s Office database should the need arise. The Society’s office staff have been working for some time to fully digitise all studbook entries and are still working on early history, so in time it is likely a number of animals may return from the parking lot as extended and historical pedigrees are worked on. Part of this work has involved the merging of duplicate entries for certain historical animals, particularly the record of the ‘unknown’ sires and dams of early registered Welsh ponies and part-breds - the number of individual entries for this alone totals over 10,000 entries at present.

It is hoped that this work by staff will also streamline and improve the online pedigree service and the Society’s internal database in time.

When searching the database, especially for older animals which are likely to have passed away, also ensure that before searching you have selected ‘Alive’ and ‘All’ in the 'Animal Status' box to guarantee that all animals matching your search that are within the database will be returned in the search. The system defaults to ‘Alive’ only for each search so be sure to check before searching again.
