Lease/Loan

To cover a leased or loaned animal for the purposes of breeding, showing and/or other performance disciplines.

The Society should be notified of the lease/loan of an animal registered with us in order that we are in possession of the correct and up to date keeper information of that animal. To record the lease/loan, the correctly completed lease form must be submitted to the Society along with the relevant fee.

If the Society is not notified of the lease/loan of the animal, then we will be unable to register foals bred by the lessee until this is resolved. Likewise, medals and awards will not be issued to the lessee or owner where the lease/loan is not recorded with the Society.

Please note that the Society lease form does not constitute a legally binding contract and is purely for administrative purposes of the Society to ensure that our records are correctly updated in such cases of leases/loans. The Society strongly recommend that the owner and lessee draw up a contract that is signed and understood by both parties before the lease/loan period begins. The Society cannot get involved in legal disputes between owners and lessees - this is a third party issue where the Society has no power to act. Similarly, we often get asked to place a 'hold' on the account of an animal that is out on lease/loan to stop any unagreed transfer of ownership requests from taking place. This is not possible. The Society can only place a hold on an animal record once in receipt of a valid crime reference number. In these cases, the Society may randomly check crime reference numbers supplied with the relevant police force in order to ascertain validity that the alleged crime relates to the equine in question.

Owners MUST notify the Society in writing when the lease/loan comes to an end, in order that our records can be amended to show the return of the animal to the owner.
