15th and 16th November, 2008
Ingleden Park Equestrian Centre, Tenterden, Kent
The South Eastern Welsh Pony and Cob Assocation held its first 2 day winter show, which was a great success, at a new Kent venue for them at Ingleden Park Equestrian Centre, Tenterden, Kent on Saturday the 15th November (Ridden day) and Sunday the 16th November, 2008 (In hand day). Fiona Tarrant the new person in charge at this venue made us most welcome and her wonderful team provided all of us with fine food at very affordable prices and the photographer for the two days was www.photoevents.org.uk. The association would like to thank all these people for making this event a happy, enjoyable two days for everyone!
The first classes of the day saw just broken 3 yr olds coming forward for their first time under saddle in the indoor arena; these three separate classes proved very popular with the members and were judged by Mrs Sue Woodhouse from Cranbrook, Kent. Moving on from those we then had the array of NPS & PUK ridden qualifiers, judged for us this year by Mrs Pat Campbell.
Our first champion of the day came from the Mini section (lead rein and first ridden ponies) where Mrs Kathleen James’s Highland Joli took the champion’s sash after winning the Open Lead Rein class ridden by Lucy Breach and produced for them by Mrs Debbie Barr. The reserve sash was awarded to Mrs Mandy Burchell Small’s Trefynys Glory Bee who took both Novice and Open First Ridden classes ridden by Olivia Burton Taylor.

- Mini Champion Champion
We then had an array of classes for the novices to take part in alongside the open qualifiers for both societies. The overall ridden champion was found in Jane Lloyd’s owner ridden Brynmeillion Lloyd George with reserve slot going to Sally Ann Dale riding Abergavenny O.J.

Brynmeillion Lloyd George
- Ridden Champion
Our dressage classes were very well supported and saw a number of our members qualify for the NPS dressage championships. Mrs Jenny Bourne‘s Haven Justin, ridden by her daughter Georgina Bourne, took 1st placing in both of the tests, Prelim Test 7 and Novice Test 27.
Moving on - Sunday saw the car park full by 9.30am. We had the outside ring going all day with Mixed M & M and Potential classes going on for both foals and youngstock, giving most of our members two classes during the day for ring experience if they wanted it. The uptake of these classes was very good, and it seemed strange to say the least to see so many New Forest and other breeds attending a Welsh Pony Association show. The foal champion in this ring was Llanarth Fair Play owned by Jane Townsend and Gina Desai with reserve going to Mrs Debbie Barr’s Firle Quirrell, and the youngstock championship was won by Fielden Cottontail owned by the Fielden Stud with the reserve being Gilsland Wells Bjorn owned by K.D. Giles.
But in the indoor school all day were our Welsh Ponies and Cob’s where a very large entry was received for our judge, Mr Colin Tibby, who had come down from Wales, with 13 Section A’s forward in the colt class and 9 forward in the fillies. L. Cornford & Ben Hobden’s grey colt foal, Thornetown Captain Jack headed the large colt class and Vanessa Mardon’s Ronswood Gina heading the filly class. The Section B foals saw the filly class headed by Bobbin Purdy owned by T. Manning and C. Ellison and the colts by Ann Fisher’s Mynyddgraig Neifian. We moved on to the youngstock classes for the same two Welsh sections and small part breds, with winners coming in the form of:- for Section A - (which saw us having to split the class), the yearling winner Miss. V Harris-Magri’s Magri Chablis, and the 2 and 3 yr old class going to Coringwould Bewtiched owned by E. Darby. Section B youngstock winner was Mrs Debbie Barr’s Carwood Goldfinch and the small part bred youngster came from the Fielden Stud with Fielden Cottontail. Then we all took a short break for lunch before moving on to a new judge, Mrs Alexander-Ford, who had travelled down to us from Lampeter in Wales.

Magri Chablis
- Youngstock Champion
The Section C Filly class was headed by Mr Peter Hussey’s D’Abernon Vanessa Mae. In the Section D’s, the filly foal winner was found in Shelly Bucknell’s Kylebeck Kalise and the colt class went to James Scammel’s Elmway Charlie Cool. After this we moved on to the large part bred foal class, which was won by Llanarth Fairplay owned by Jane Townsend and Gina Desai. Then as before we moved on to the youngstock classes for these three sections, where the Section C winning youngster was found in David Hawkins’s Merwydd Rosina and the Section D was Mr W. Wenham’s Montel Diamond Geeza, and then the large part bred went to B. Harris’s Patcholi.

D’Abernon Vanessa Mae
- Foal Supreme Champion
Then to close this part of the show we saw all the 1st and 2nd prize winning foals come back into the ring for the two judges to find their SEWPCA Foal champion of 2008, which went to Mr Peter Hussey with D’Abernon Vanessa Mae with reserve slot going to Ben Hobden and Lucy Cornford’s Section A filly foal winner Thornetown Captain Jack. The final competition of the weekend saw a great number of Welsh youngstock come back into the ring for the SEWPCA 2008 youngstock championship which this year was won by the Section A winning pony Magri Chablis owned by Mrs. V. Harris-Magri with reserve slot going to the Section C pony, Merwydd Rosina owned by David Hawkins.
