Freddie Flintoff Supreme Champion
WELSH Pony and Cob breeders from far and wide came to the Alva International
18th Welsh National Foal Show on Sunday at the Royal Welsh Showground, with more
than 300 entries of quality Welsh youngstock put forward for judging.
The Supreme Champion title went to Section D colt foal Blaengwen Freddie
Flintoff, owned and bred by Les Davies of the Blaengwen Stud, Pencader, and his
daughter Nicola Jones of the Fronarth Stud, Pennant, Llanon. Freddie Flintoff
was sired by Fronarth Welsh Magic.
Fronarth Stud's own filly foal, Fronarth Telynores Goch, was sold for a
staggering £12,000 at the recent Royal Welsh Cob Sale.
Section A filly Ceulan Mia took the Reserve Champion title in a strong class of
58 forward. Owned by Dr Wynne Davies and his son David Davies, of Ceulan Stud,
Pontyclyn, Ceulan Mia is the progeny of Section A stallion Frongoch Cardi, who
recently claimed the title top Welsh Mountain Pony in the Cuddy's Supreme in
hand at the Horse of the Year Show.
Champion Section B was awarded to Mrs M Lewis of Llanwrda's filly Cwrtycadno
Colomen, bred from Royal Welsh Champion Thornberry Royal Gem. The stud has also
claimed recent success at the International Show in Belgium this year gaining
the International young stock Champion title with Cwrtycadno Perlen, Colomen's
sister.
Robert and Carol Jones of the Rhydygroes Stud, Aberdare, won the Section C
championship with the filly Rhydygroes Ruby, the granddaughter of their
foundation mare Trevallion Rose that was acquired at the Royal Welsh sale in
1982.
Meinir Evans of Cilycwm, Llandovery, won the Welsh part bred championship with a
daughter of the Section D stallion Pennal Replica named Mallaen Sonata. The only
previous time that Sonata was shown was when she was champion at the Ceredigion
Foal Show.
Jocelyn Price of Courtway Stud, Hereford, claimed success
once again this year with her Champion riding pony foal Courtway Annabell, a
sister to last year's champion, Courtway Anastasia.
