Welsh Pony and Cob Society Performance Competition 2004 Presentations

At the Thistle Hotel, Cheltenham Sunday 5th December

The 22-year-old section D stallion Curtis Mill Flyer having been reserve overall champion in the 2003 competition, this time went one stage better and took the supreme trophy along with the veteran trophy. Ridden by his owner Kay Davies, Flyer won all his points in affiliated dressage at the highest level and is one of the very few grey section D’s in the Welsh Stud Book. Flyer was bred by Mr Alan Brown of Curtis Mill Lane, Stapleford Abbotts, Romford Essex and was sired by Derryth Gay Time which the late Mr Charlie Brown (no relation) drove to win the trade turnout class at the Royal Welsh Show.

The reserve overall champion this time was another section D, the gelding Ruckham Henry ridden by Sammy Page who collected 4,790 points.

Champion section A with 4,270 points was Kathleen James’s Highland Jury, a five-year-old gelding sired by Twyford Nirvana. Ridden by Louis Simmons, he won seven championships in working hunter pony competitions.

The sixteen-year-old gelding Cottrell Goldcrest with 4,225 points was section B champion. Ridden by Emma Jenkinson, most of his points were won for dressage.

Sarah Jane Cook’s driving pair Leyeswick Bantam Cock and Leyeswick Welsh Flyer with 4,720 points won the section C championship for the fourth successive year. Having been driven originally as a pair they are now also often driven in tandem and were reserve overall c hampion in 2000.

Tasmin Jessup’s Dewines-y-Mynydd, winner of the small part-bred trophy with 4,260 points is a newcomer to this competition and is very versatile having gained points for show riding, working hunter and hunter trials.

Chris Randall’s champion large part-bred Mytice Minding Time ridden by Lizzie Grey is a top show jumper and also qualified as a worker for the Royal International.

The prizemoney was sponsored by Brightwells Auctioneers and the top section A child rider received an award in memory of the late Mr Paul Galea. In addition five bursaries were given to child competitors under 14 years; these were sponsored by Mr and Mrs Chris Gibbons of the Rhydspence Stud and the Roberts Native Show Team.
