This was the fourth time in succession for Laura Collett to capture the supreme position, having previously won on Bockmer Winston (Section A), Baverstock Talissa (Section B) and Glenwood Caradog (Section A). Penwayn Ryan was bred locally by the Watkins family of Pengenffordd, Brecon in 1994, and until last year was only ridden in a halter by the grandchildren around the farm. Ryan was "spotted" and bought by local performance enthusiast Ricky Perry at the last October Brecon Sale, and within a few months won the £1,000 supreme working hunter championship at Ponies (UK), against all breeds and all heights. At this show Ryan won first placings for ridden, working hunter and show jumping, and seconds for dressage and hunter trials.
Interesting breeding facts were that the working hunter champion, Pantyfid Toy Soldier, was the sire of the ridden champion, Starcrest Discovery, and within the part-breds, the large points champion, Sponden Tudor, is sired by Maesmynach Flyer, who is also sire of Maesmynach Cymro Coch, the sire of the winning large part-bred working hunter Penlanganol Flyte.
The harness champion, Parvadean Lotta-Bottle, is another who has sired prizewinning progeny and prior to being broken to harness, twice won the ridden class at the Royal Welsh Show.
