Welsh Section B makes it into the History Book

At the NPS Baileys Horse Feed Ridden Mountain and Moorland Final held at Olympia, it was the five year old section B stallion, Pittybeck Prince Charming, that came top of the thirty five entries. By doing so he became the youngest pony to win the prestigious final. Welsh animals occupied three out of the top six placings.

Prince Charming was the eleventh Welsh to win this title, the first being another Section B, Criffel Casper, back in the inaugural year of 1978 along with many great names since including Persie Ramrod, Norwood Principal Boy, Starcrest Discovery, Kentchurch Cloud and Kentchurch Request.

On this occasion Pitybeck Prince Charming achieved the top performance mark from judge, Caroline Nelson, for his foot-perfect performance in the electric atmosphere of the Olympia Hall; two months ago in the HOYS final he also gained the top ride mark of the day for another consistent performance. He has been ridden throughout his career by Katie Carter for his popular owner/breeders Roy and Jill Ashington from Selby in Yorkshire. And what is his future? There is a general agreement that he is too young to retire so maybe we will see him turn his hand in the worker ring.

Waithwith West Wind gained the best of breed award for Section A, Menai Magic’s Chrisial for Section C and Drumacre Lloer Solo the best of the Section D.

Miss Ann Wheatcroft’s Sydenham Forget Me Not gained the award for best large breeds bred by exhibitor; she also shared the top conformation mark of the competition.
