“Meeting Today’s Needs and Tomorrow’s Challenges

The National Pony Society is about to begin recruitment for a Chief Executive to lead the organisation into an exciting new phase of development.

Earlier this year NPS commissioned an independent review of its operations and governance. A number of recommendations were made and the Society’s Council has begun to put them into action on an incremental basis. This includes a decision to create a new post of Chief Executive with specific responsibility to initiate debate on NPS’ long term priorities, implement a new strategic plan, promote the Society and represent its best interests at every opportunity.

Linda Impey, NPS Chairman, said today: “The creation of the Chief Executive post will enable the Society to build on its historic position and make sure that the interests of all pony breeds are represented at the highest level. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm for equine issues, who will provide NPS with the leadership necessary to meet today’s needs and tomorrow’s challenges. Council are unanimous in their commitment to developing the work of NPS and the Chief Executive will play a key role in strengthening our relationship with members and promoting and publicising our aims for the future. Changes in regulations governing the health and welfare of equines continue to emerge and the NPS’ membership rightly expects us to continue to represent their views at the negotiating table. Our new Chief Executive will support us in putting our case across and ensuring that members’ voices are heard.”

The Chief Executive post will be advertised in Horse and Hound early in January, when full details of the application process will be made available to readers.” ENDS

  • National Pony Society is a charitable company with about 3000 members.
  • It was founded well over 100 years ago and is the primary representative of pony interests in the UK.
  • It provides services to members, holds the British Riding Pony Stud Book, promotes the welfare of ponies and holds prestigious championship shows.
  • It commissioned an independent review of its operations and governance in January 2007, which resulted in a number of recommendations.
  • NPS Council, the organisation’s governing body, adopted the review report in May and a number of recommendations have now been implemented.
  • The creation of the Chief Executive post will bring the Society into line with similar bodies and provide a focal point for developing and promoting services as well as managing resources and advising Council on governance matters.
