Regulations Governing In-Hand Medal Awards

As from 1st January 2005, to be affiliated to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society, shows must hold Public Liability cover to include officiating Judges, this may require separate or additional cover to that already held. Please sign the declaration on the Affiliation Form.

  1. The Society’s GOLD medal is awarded only at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s Annual Show.
  2. The Society’s BRONZE and **SILVER medals are awarded for In-Hand classes at annual shows of Societies affiliated to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society who have, prior to their show, paid the appropriate affiliation. The Affiliation Fee includes the cost of a display case and engraving.

**Where a SILVER medal is awarded, that show cannot also award a BRONZE Medal.
  3. An affiliated show Society to be eligible for the award of the Society’s BRONZE medal must have classification in their schedule providing at least four classes for any one Section of the Stud Book for stallions, mares, geldings and youngstock registered in the Welsh Pony & Cob Society Stud Book or appendices relating to F.S. 2 animals. Medals will only be awarded to the Champion or Reserve Champion. Where there is full Classification, the medals cannot be restricted to Youngstock Champions/Reserve Champions but must be offered to Section Champion/Reserve.(The Royal Welsh Show being an exception to this Rule).

Copies of Show Schedules must be submitted to the Society for approval prior to being sent for final printing.

As from 1st January 2005, classification for Ridden Classes must be separated from the In-Hand classes. These classes are not eligible to compete for the In-Hand Medals as in the past.

The Society does have an alternative award in that the Performance Medals are available. Separate affiliation form available from the Office.

Where a SILVER Medal is offered for award, classification must be provided for at least SIX Classes in any one Section of the Stud Book.
  4. No medals will be awarded at shows unless a printed catalogue is on sale at the show containing the entries in each class and giving the name and number of the exhibits as registered or entered in the Welsh Pony & Cob Society’s Stud Book or Appendices.
  5. Copies of marked catalogues must be submitted to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society’s offices. Marked catalogues must be lodged at the Society’s offices within 14 days of the date of the show duly marked to show the placings from 1st – 4th as well as Champion and Reserve Champion.

As from 1st January 2005, all marked Catalogues and completed medal cards must be posted to the Society’s Office by Registered or Recorded Delivery. This, we hope will reduce the number of results getting lost in the post.

The results of the Medal Awards are compiled by the Office at the end of each Season and printed in the annual Journal. The Medals are thereafter engraved by the Society and posted directly to the exhibitors. (Due to the fact that the medal can be offered to the Champion or Reserve Champion it is vitally important that the results are received within the time period as this does have a knock on effect for shows held later in the year.)
  6. In the case of an animal not registered at the time of entry at the show at which a medal is competed for, application for registration or entry in the Appendix must be made within one month of the date of the show, otherwise the medal will not awarded. Geldings, originally registered as stallions and still being shown under their stallion numbers, must be correctly re-entered in the Gelding Section or the medal will be with-held.
  7. No animal shall be awarded more that one medal in any one year. Medals awarded by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (Royal Welsh Show/Winter Fair) and for the Welsh Mountain Pony Stallion Premium Champion at Glanusk are excepted from this rule (i.e. an animal can be awarded one gold, one silver and one bronze medal in any one season).
  8. Medals will only be awarded to animals whose owners are members of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society who have paid their subscriptions for the current year or are life members or who have submitted their name for membership and paid one annual subscription or Life membership composition.

**Owners/Lessees who are not current members will be allowed 14 days after the receipt of the Catalogue to join the Society.
  9. Medals will only be awarded when the classes are judged by a judge who is on the Panel of Judges of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society.

Where a SILVER Medal is awarded, the officiating Judge, who is on the Panel of Judges of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society must be in possession of an asterisk (*).
  10. All colts and stallions, 4 years old or over must be in possession of a Society Licence of correctness (or acknowledged alternative) to be eligible for registration.
  11. Colts may be licensed from 1st January of their 2 year old year and all colts presented for stallion premiums must be licensed. Progeny of unlicensed stallions are not eligible for registration.
  12. Show Secretaries are asked to ensure that the certificate/s, which will be supplied on receipt of the completed medal affiliation form and appropriate fee, is/are correctly signed by the officiating judge/s to confirm the Champion and Reserve Champion in the appropriate Sections where medals are awarded.
  13. Classification in the schedules of the Societies affiliated to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society should in all cases be in keeping with the Welsh Pony & Cob Society’s rules in relation to height limits.
  14. Show awarding SILVER Medals will be assessed periodically, the assessment based on the standard of past entries and geographical spread. Failure to respond to Society requests for information could result in the withdrawal of the Silver Medal status.

THE SOCIETY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW THE AWARD OF MEDALS FROM A SHOW

January 2007

IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT THE MARKED CATALOGUES AND MEDAL CARDS ARE RECEIVED AT THE OFFICE IT IS NOW A REQUIREMENT THAT ALL RESULTS RELATING TO THE AWARD OF MEDALS ARE RETURNED TO THE SOCIETY’S OFFICE BY RECORDED OR REGISTERED MAIL. WE APOLOGISE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE CAUSED BUT DUE TO THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF RESULTS NOT BEING RECEIVED AT THE OFFICE IT WAS FELT THAT THIS WAS THE SAFEST MEANS OF ENSURING SAFE ARRIVAL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.
