Pennal Calon Mai
Sold on the 2006 sale and qualified for HOYS and Olympia 2007

After the overwhelming success of the 2006 Sale when prices averaged £1,132 and the Sale total was £741,432 this year’s Sale has attracted 916 entries of the highest calibre. The entries are made up of 140 section C and D geldings and part-breds, 45 part-bred foals, 140 section C and D foals sold without reserve and 612 breeding and performance section C’s and D’s of all ages. There is something there to suit everyone’s requirements.

There have been Royal Welsh Sales with more entries, the highest being 996 in 1994 but the Sale total was then only £443,356. This year’s catalogue contains a much higher general standard of entry including some quite exceptional animals.

The families of some of the consignees date back to the beginning of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society, these Studs include Arthen, Goyallt, Llwynhywel, Rhystyd, Ystradewi, Pantlleinau, Cwmtynant, Glanteifi, Menai, Parc, Ormond, Paith, Cathedine, Tyngwndwn, Horeb, Hwylog and Rhandir.

Trefaes Black Flyer

Two Studs with 15 entries each and which have received many record prices over the years are Brynithon and Synod. The Brynithon consignment is made up of 7 section D colt foals, 4 filly foals, 2 section C mares and 2 colt foals. The Synod lots comprise 7 section C filly foals, 3 fillies, 1 mare, 1 section D colt foal, 1 section C gelding, 1 section D gelding and finally the eleven-year-old black section C stallion Synod Request who has sired previous Sale toppers.

Kallistalodge is selling 14, Llanidan 13, Thorneyside 12, Popsters/Parvadean 11, Menai 10, Janton 9, 8 each from Cefn, Fronarth, Blaengwen, Trixies, Seiont and Cascob, 7 each from Ilar and Pentrefelin, and 6 each from Penlangrug, Genal, Iouar, Penstrumbly, Ionos, Perthog, Llanmorlais, Cruglwyd and Llanwnen.

Purchases from previous Royal Welsh Sales have had brilliant successes during 2007 including the World Driving champion at Dorthealyst, Denmark in July. Many colt foals bought from the no-reserve section have developed into very valuable performance geldings.
