The Carmarthenshire Welsh Pony & Cob Association Spring Show was held on the Carmarthen Showground on Sunday. 17th May accompanied by heavy downpours of rain and strong gusts of wind! This did not stop both the exhibitors and judges from making this yet another success for this popular Association. With the financial climate as it is at present it would have been understandable if entries had been down considerably, this was not the case, and our Judges commented on the high standard of the ponies and cobs that came forward from far and wide. The largest class in the Section A’s saw an entry of twenty three young fillies, the winner here being Menai Angel Aur handled by young Richard Jones for his parents, Peter and Ann. Though in the Youngstock championship the colts found favour with Richard Miller and Meirion Davies’s Fayre Oaks Sale topper, Colne Turbo taking the title with Steve William’s homebred Dukes Hill Magnum yearling colt, Rhesfair Joe Chwedl in Reserve. Another Magnum son lifted the Overall tricolour for the second year running in the shape of Kathy and Joanna Sheils young stallion, Dukes Hill Darcy, fresh from his Lampeter Stallion show win, therefore gaining further valuable sire rating points that were on offer. Joe Chwedl finished the day as Supreme Champion yearling of the Show and Turbo took the Supreme Youngstock trophy reinforcing the strength within this Section. ![]() Colne Turbo Photograph by www.anthony-reynolds.net Again on a repeat victory from last year’s show, two year old Heniarth Wood-Wind took the top award in the Section B’s for Richard Miller and Meirion Davies by first standing above Hywel and Yvonne Davies’s 2008 Royal Welsh Youngstock Champion, Cadlan Valley Georgette, in the junior classes and then on close inspection getting the nod over the Landon Family’s current Glanusk Champion stallion, Linksbury Charming. ![]() Heniarth Wood Wind Photograph by Action Replay Photography No stranger to success, Dafydd Jones handled the familiy’s homebred two year old filly, Fronarth Miss Nerys to take the Youngstock award in the Section C’s, as she had done recently at Lampeter Stallion Show, above Janine and Lauren Hadley’s two year colt, Laurtom Leonardo though Miss Nerys maintained her position to stand Overall Champion to Aled Rees’s Nebo Bouncer son, Erw-Wasted Rhys. Nerys clinched the Supreme Show Champion of Champions from Dukes Hill Magnum at the close of the day’s proceedings. The worst of the weather tested both the Cobs and their handlers as they battled through the waterlogged ground though claiming another two year old victory was Meirion Evan’s homebred Culhwch son, Gwynfaes Y Gôf who stood above the Gower bred filly, Aberlogin April Rose for the Neebro Stud down from North Yorkshire. However, Thorneyside bloodlines came to the fore once again with the Championship going to Gareth Lapping and Karl Walters Haniel Cochise, by “The Predator” out of “Flyers Charm”. Billy Gwilliam’s homebred Rotherwood State Occasion grandson, Perrington Diplomat found favour with both Mr and Mrs Partridge who judged the Riding Pony and Welsh-Part Bred sections respectively whilst the successful Mountain Pony stallion Taffman Tiny Tittlemouse by Gredington Andreas is no stranger to palomino awards taking another tri-colour here. ![]() Perrington Diplomat Photograph by www.anthony-reynolds.net ![]() Taffman Tiny Tittlemouse Photograph by www.anthony-reynolds.net Ridden classes were strong with Scottish based Pat Burnie taking the Novice Championship in John James’s care with Malog Tywysoges Ruth though the Supreme Ridden Award at the end of the day went to the Mini Champion, Heniarth Davey Crockett, a previous Horse of the Year Show finalist by Roseisle Pandy Tudyr for Phillipa John, ridden by young son, Jake. ![]() Malog Tywysoges Ruth Photograph by www.anthony-reynolds.net ![]() Heniarth Davey Crockett Photograph by www.anthony-reynolds.net The results are as follows :- Welsh Part Bred (Mr. L.
