We would like to give a very big thank you to all those at the Welsh Pony and Cob Society AGM who contributed so generously to the Australian Bush Fire Fund (Project Hope Equine). The wonderful total of £801.42p, with many promises of Donations still to come, was a tremendous amount. We have had a thank you from the Horse Council of Australia thanking all the UK Pony and Breed Societies for their great support too. Mrs Elizabeth Mansfield-Parnell February 2009 Thousands of people lost their Families, their Homes, their Animals, their Land and their Places of Work to the biggest Fire in Australian history. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxuKmcyyT1g Today Thousands have no Homes, no Animals, Land burnt to cinders and nowhere to work The Australian Bush Fire Fund has been established in the UK by Members of the National Pony Society who would appreciate the support of Show Societies, Members of UK Equine Breed Societies, the British Racing & Thoroughbred Industries, BETA members, the UK Equine Press, Young Farmers Clubs, Veterinary Surgeries, Farriers, the NFU and indeed all organisations & citizens to participate in raising funds for these people whom News coverage has now forgotten. February 2009 Two sisters died going trying to save their ponies - All Gone, families died in their cars trying to escape, breeders had to decide which 3 animals out of their stock they could transport, whole show teams were lost, Cows were roaming loose with no feed and screaming for water, the eldery were trapped in their homes, a man was forced to stay in lake for hours whilst the fires ravaged around him, main roads melted and are unpassable to this day, animals with more than 10% burns have been destroyed, some Racing trainers & yards are no more; many horses and ponies remain unclaimed - their owners "gone we imagine". Please add your own hoofprint to this cause & assist the fund raising by donating to the "Australian Bush Fire Fund." Money raised will be forwarded to "Project Hope - Equine" a non profit organisation led by The Horse Council of Australia run entirely on donations. "Project Hope" has been established to help those affected by the Bush Fires by providing Welfare, much needed fodder, fencing, re-instating & equipping Veterinary Centres and encouraging rural life to begin AGAIN.
