| National High Point Junior Gelding of the Year Scheme
The scheme was started several years ago by Maggie Carter of the Millcroft Stud and Richard Miller of the Heniarth Stud and has since been taken over by the Welsh Pony & Cob Society Head Office in Aberystwyth.
It was devised as an attempt to give junior geldings some status until they are of an age to break and ride/drive on. The competition is free to enter, and points are accumulated from a maximum of fifteen shows. It was set at this level as it was considered that geldings were at no more risk of being over shown than fillies are now prior to a career.
Each Section is sponsored by a Welsh Pony and Cob Society Stud, with the prize money being split between the first three animals in each Section. Rosettes are awarded down to sixth place and the winner of each Section also receives a small trophy. In addition to this, the Supreme Champion receives a sash and rosette and the Clarwood Perpetual Trophy, kindly donated by Guy and Helen Clardy from the USA. The Reserve Supreme Champion also receives a sash and rosette. These are awarded at the Performance Awards Ceremony in December annually, and the results appear in the Society’s Journal.
The Society covers the cost of printing, postage, rosettes and first place trophies so the sponsorship money is passed directly to the winners.
All those who support the scheme feel it is a worthy cause and appreciate the effort the competitors make when showing their Junior Geldings. If you are interested in taking part in the scheme then you are able to download the rules and an application form here. Alternatively please contact the Society’s Office and we will be pleased to send a copy to you.
