EDUCATION & WELFARE COMMITTEE
Purpose:
To foster and further encourage the acquisition of knowledge
regarding the management of Welsh Ponies and Cobs and their
Part-Breds in particular and equines in general through a
developing programme of instruction and liaison with like
minded groups.
Responsible for:

Managing funds allocated by Council for
use in educating members and public at large in terms of
management of equines and their welfare
-
Organising appropriate
seminars/discussion groups/visits/demonstrations
-
Setting out requirements to be met and
coordinating award of bursaries
-
Liaising with selected colleges or
course/professional instruction providers
-
Overall supervision of Young People’s
Committee activities
-
Organising and appointing Young
Ambassador annually
-
Suggesting events that they believe the
Exhibition Unit could usefully attend as an educational
tool
-
If requested by Council and under
guidance from the Society’s Welfare Officer, make further
enquiries regarding any court cases involving welfare
regarding a member of the Society
-
Working with Society’s Welfare Officer
and Veterinary Officer in respect to furthering the
knowledge of keeping equines and their care and providing
support should they request it

Liaise with other equine welfare groups
as necessary

Setting up a Welfare Working Party
Membership:
-
The Education & Welfare Committee shall
consist of 3 members of Council elected by Council from
amongst their number at the first Council Meeting after an
AGM
-
The previous year’s Young Ambassador,
current Young Ambassador, Young Ambassador Elect, Welfare
and Veterinary Officers are invited to sit
on the Committee (non-voting)
Attendance at Meetings

Subject matter expert advisors
may be co-opted as required for advice on specific
subjects for a period of one year subject to the approval
of Council, prior to being invited. However they may not
vote.

A quorum shall be 2 with voting rights
Frequency of Meetings
-
The Education & Welfare Committee will
meet a minimum of once a year.

Council may in addition ask the
Committee to meet to consider specific proposals
